2024 Ipswich West by-election

With over 80% of votes counted in the Ipswich-West by-election, the LNP gained what was previously deemed a ‘safe’ Labor seat! Our candidate, Melody Lindsay, made an oustanding showing, finishing ahead of the One Nation candidate, third, only behind the big two! Well done Melody, earning over 14.5% of the total first preference vote (as at 11am Saturday, 23 March) for the Legalise Cannabis Queensland Party and announcing the Parties arrival on the political scene in Queensland with such a huge result for a grassroots effort!

With the first week of pre-polling over and done with, it is on to week two and polling day! To follow along with the process, Antony Green, ABC Chief Election Analyst, has an updates log of the ongoing Ipswich West By-Election (alongside the Inala By-Election and Brisbane City Mayoral Election).

The following preference recommendations have been made on registered how-to-vote material.
Labor: 2nd preference to Legalise Cannabis …
LNP: 2nd preference to One Nation ahead of Labor in third and Legalise Cannabis last …

Early Voting Statistics – A total of 5,046 postal votes have been dispached representing 12.9% of enrolment. This is well down on the 2020 state election when 6,801 were dispatched representing 18.9% of enrolment. Of dispatched postal votes in 2020, only 79.8% were returned and accepted into the count.

To Friday 8 March there have been 3,467 pre-poll votes taken representing 8.9% of enrolment. From all sources there were 6,801 pre-polls at the 2020 election representing 18.9% of enrolment.

The Legalise Cannabis Queensland (LCQ) Party Campaign Committee is looking for members and volunteers to help boost votes in the upcoming by-election in Ipswich West.

The voting public may not be aware that they can vote for cannabis law reform for cheaper medicine, to change the unfair drug driving laws, open up the hemp industry and create jobs that will be friendly to the environment, by putting LCQ at Number 1.

Without volunteers to chat with voters face to face, many voters do not necessarily understand what the Party is all about. If a volunteer is there, offering a how-to-vote card and educating people, we are sure to see an increase in our expected vote.

Since the Legalise Cannabis parties now have five elected members in three states (New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia) the big Parties are starting to take notice, and they can see that people are voting for change.

We are inviting you to become part of a volunteer contingent to get our message out there to all Queenslanders! Can you help?

Listed below are the booths and early voting places and dates. If you can help, please contact the Party candidate Melody Lindsay via email, melody4ipswichwest@gmail.com, with your time and date availability.

We also need a couple of people who can leave corflutes and how-to-vote cards (HTVs) at any unmanned polling places (pre-polls and booths) and find premises on busy streets etc to erect corflutes at, and then collect them all again, after the Election.

Volunteering in this way can be fun and it is extremely important to help raise our Party’s profile and our primary vote. Meeting like minded people and spreading the word is part of the experience.
